Drama Queen?
In searching my brain for a post, any post having to do with high school or the 80s (you people are more than welcome to help post, just send me an email and you can be added as an author) I thought about this. If you could go back to high school, is there something you wish you would have tried? Or something you wish you could have changed? Either one. I always wished I would have tried out for a drama production or at least helped out backstage. Always thought about it but too scared to get up there and audition. I loved Mr. Salter's speech & drama class, though. That gave me a little fix. I always thought life would be so much fun as a musical even though I can't sing. Now it's your turn. I probably shouldn't have dropped out of choir after the 9th grade or basketball two-thirds of the way through the 9th grade season. I wasn't spectacularly great at either of those but could have been decent if I had worked a little harder. Band is the other thing I kinda wish I had done.
On the flip side ... getting into journalism was a great "accident" for me. I took journalism in 10th grade only because all the typing classes were full (we still had typewriters back then, in case you don't remember).
Is this an integrated class or what?
Where in the heck are all the photos of the African American students who graduated that year. It is painfully obvious that although we were an integrated class, the culture of the school truly lacked diversity. Even 20 years after the fact the mentality is still evedent in the memorbilia displayed on the website...or mayber they thought we weren't paying attention!
Everyone is welcome to send in photos and they will be added to the flikr site or you can join and add them to the group yourself. Only 3 people out of a graduating class of 300 have sent in any photos.
I am working on a series of classmate mini-biographies (admittedly slow getting off the ground, because of my work and other commitments) that will go on this blog that include a diverse range of JHS-88ers ... not just diverse by race but profession, location, etc. The integrated education setting I grew up in --not only at JHS but from elementary school up -- is something I still value, as I got to know people of so many different backgrounds. I will keep your point in mind going forward on what I post.

Ok - I've thought about it and I wished I would have tried out for choir and taken more art classes.
I was in Mr. Salter's drama/speech classes every year I was at JHS. I am not an actor by any means but the speech classes helped me get over my fear of public speaking which helps me TREMENDOUSLY in my job!!
I also wished I would have flirted with the boys more!!
Hmmmm. I really thought about this and I seriously cannot think of a single thing I would change. I was just happy to be, I guess.
Choir and drama productions are my best memories of high school... Looking back ... we really did "HAVE IT ALL" we just didnt know it... the other day i found myself humming the alma mater song.. how many remember? Dear old jonesboro high we will always be true.. and your praises we always will sing... when on lifes stormy seas we at last have embarked... honor to your name well try to bring... and if we shoudl wander from you afar... we will never forget as years go by... that our alma mater was still just as dear as when we were here at JONESBORO HIGH....
I thought of another thing academically I would have done: Take art classes instead of Journaliam with my friends since I didn't get an fun annual or a newspaper job. Thanks Ms. Fielder. :-)
And I would not have take Advanced Biology. Why did I think this would be easier than Chemistry?
